It is relatively easy to sign up for a web affiliate program, especially if you are keen to make some extra money through internet affiliate programs. The terms and conditions of these website affiliate programs, however, are often overlooked by many potential affiliates. This is where many new affiliate marketers stumble, even when they sign up for the best affiliate marketing program that they can find.
It makes common sense that a person should read the terms of an Internet marketing program, but the sheer volume of text makes it a difficult and time-consuming process.
But here’s a question: just how important is learning the T&C’s of a web affiliate program and how can it specifically impact your business?
Hidden charges and fees An affiliate program making money will always have a few fees and charges, but you don’t want to pay for stuff that you don’t know you’re paying.
Many of these terms and conditions regarding fees and charges are buried in layers of text, making it difficult for the affilaite (that’s you) to spot them. This is an especially prominent problem with free affiliate program models, wherein they recover their operating expenses by nipping away at the money you make.
This is one of the most important reasons why there are no such things as ‘free’ internet affiliate programs.
Problematic return policies I’ve seen a lot of affiliate marketers that slap 30 to 60-day return guarantees on their sales pages – guarantees that are uncommonly supported by many of the top affiliate programs out there.
The return policies and guarantees of a web affiliate program must match the return policies of the sponsor, lest there be a problem for you and your business. You might even find yourself on the receiving end of a lawsuit from both your clients and your sponsor if you make these claims.
Just make sure that you’re making such inconsistent guarantees on purpose, though. It is easy and very tempting to make such claims, but you’ll ultimately end up on the losing end in the long run.
Illegal promos and discounts Promos and discounts are very effective for attracting people to join your program. Not all Internet affiliate programs and their sponsors, however, will allow you to make discounts on your own.
A web affiliate program has are very strict when it comes to price management. Some will allow their affiliates to throw in discounts and bonus coupons, but others will penalize or even blacklist affiliates that disrupt the competitive status quo.
These are just three of the more important things you should look out for when going through the terms and conditions of a web affiliate program. You’ll just have to suck it up and read the terms of your chosen Internet marketing affiliate program if you don’t want to go through problems with these factors.
Just make sure, however, that you actually understand the terms and conditions.
Burying the terms and conditions under a mountain of text is fairly common, so don’t be afraid to ask any clarifying questions via the email of your programs and sponsors to clarify anything you want to clear up.
After all, you don’t want to buy a web affiliate program and then get suspended from the niche affiliate marketing program just because you didn’t read the terms!
